Seebohm head over heels for new boy
MEET the new man in Emily Seebohm's life.
The champion swimmer has fallen head over heels in love with Pongo, the 13-week-old dalmatian pup who this month moved into the Brisbane home Seebohm shared with fellow pool star Mitch Larkin until their split in July.
"I just wanted someone chilled, who wasn't going to add stress to my life but help me have more fun," said the 26-year-old Olympian and 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
"It's nice to get cuddles, and he's a big cuddler."
It was love at first sight for Seebohm.
"Living by myself was kind of weird in such a big house with no one around, and yeah, I didn't expect it to happen so quickly but when I messaged the breeder she said she had a few males to choose from.
"When I saw him, he wasn't all needy like the other pups coming up to me and wanting attention. He was waiting in the background, lying on his bed, and I went, 'that guy right there, he's perfect!'"
Seebohm, who on Monday flies out to compete in the Swimming World Cup in the Netherlands and Hungary, said she wanted a companion who was low maintenance.
"I wanted someone super-chilled as I didn't want to lump my parents with anything crazy when I go away."
John and Karen Seebohm live on the same street in Hendra in Brisbane's inner-north as their daughter, who bought her Balinese-style home with Larkin in March 2017 for $1.375 million.
As for romance of the human kind, Seebohm said she "probably wouldn't look at another swimmer again".
"I'm quite content with my little guy, and just enjoying that. He has the most beautiful greeny-grey eyes and he's very cute."
