WORKING with the legendary Dame Julie Andrews is an experience that Toowoomba theatre actress Georgina Hopson will never forget.
The 26-year-old, who has been performing on stage since she was a child, had the opportunity to work with Dame Julie after being chosen as the understudy for Eliza Doolitle and a member of the ensemble in the production of My Fair Lady.
The production, which is being performed at QPAC in Brisbane, is directed by Dame Julie.
"The whole experience has been surreal and beautiful," Ms Hopson said.
"Julie Andrews is my childhood hero and she really is an outstanding human to be around. I cherished every moment I got to witness her working."
Ms Hopson said she learnt so much from Dame Julie and "a lot of it I can't put into words".
"But I can say from watching her work, she showed me what it is to be a true professional," she said.
"She conducts herself with poise, grace, gravitas and a fantastic sense of humour.
"I will carry this entire experience and everything I have learnt from Julie with me for the rest of my career."
Ms Hopson said being in the ensemble meant she was on-stage every night in the dancing and singing chorus, dressed up as all sorts of characters - a cockney girl, flower seller, London high-society lady and an aristocrat.
"I always knew I wanted to work in the theatre, because as much as I love watching it, I love performing in it even more," she said.
"I just always knew that on the stage is where I'm meant to be."
My Fair Lady closes on April 30. Buy tickets at www.qpac.com.au.
